Anxiety, Depression, & Self-Worth
-
Longstanding anxiety and depression often hide behind a life that looks highly successful and high-functioning on the outside. On the inside, you may find yourself trapped in:
A persistent, exhausting sense of self-doubt that whispers you are never doing enough
A heavy, constant feeling of emotional emptiness, chronic loneliness, or feeling like you are just going through the motions
A reliance on overcontrol, extreme independence, and severe difficulty asking others for help
-
From a psychodynamic perspective, these mood struggles often stem from early emotional neglect or severe criticism.
Unlike overt abuse, emotional neglect is the quiet absence of comfort and affection. When your deeper thoughts and feelings are met with a parent's emotional absence, you learn that no one will show up when you need them most. To survive, you learn to bury your normal human needs for connection. You look highly successful and independent to the world, but your true feelings remain hidden and unseen.

Identify and soften the harsh, internalized critical voices driving your self-criticism
Recover an active awareness of your personal needs and grieve developmental deprivation
