Frequently Asked Questions

Email mdpsychiatryconsultation@gmail.com to schedule a complimentary 15 minute phone consultation and see if your needs match my practice.

I primarily see patients in person in my Brookline office. Meeting at the office allows me to conduct a thorough mental status examination and observe subtle physical symptoms that video screens can miss.
Telehealth appointments are available as a flexible alternative for days when illness, travel, or scheduling conflicts prevent you from making it to the office.
For telehealth appointments, you must be physically located in Massachusetts at the time of your visit, as I am licensed to practice medicine only in Massachusetts.

Initial consultations are 60 or 90 minutes and typically involve 1–3 appointments.
Follow-up appointments for psychotherapy, medication management, or combined treatment are generally 60 minutes.
Brief 30-minute medication follow-ups may be available for established patients with stable treatment needs.

I operate an independent, private-pay practice that allows for a personalized approach to care while prioritizing your privacy and individual needs.
My standard fee is $400 for a 60-minute appointment. Please contact me for current fees for additional services and information about my structured sliding scale program.

I am out-of-network with all insurance companies. If you have out-of-network benefits, I can provide you with a superbill (an itemized receipt). You can submit this directly to your insurance company to seek partial reimbursement.
You can contact your insurance company to verify your out-of-network benefits. I'm also happy to provide the specific questions to ask so you can better understand your coverage.

Suppose your insurance company determines that its allowed amount for a visit is $200. If you have already met your out-of-network deductible and your plan reimburses 60% of the allowed amount, your insurance company would reimburse $120. If my fee is $400, your out-of-pocket cost would be $280.
This is only an example to illustrate how out-of-network reimbursement works. Allowed amounts, deductibles, and reimbursement rates vary by insurance plan. If you'd like to estimate your benefits before your first appointment, I'm happy to provide the specific questions to ask your insurance company.

I offer a structured sliding-scale program for patients who feel my practice may be a good fit but have financial considerations related to my standard fee.
During our initial complimentary 15-minute phone consultation, we can discuss whether a reduced-fee arrangement may be possible.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy is a depth-oriented approach that benefits from a consistent, collaborative relationship to explore patterns, emotions, and experiences over time. We will typically meet once or twice a week.
For medication management alone, appointments are generally less frequent and tailored to your individual needs and treatment goals, often ranging from every 1–3 months depending on your clinical stability.
-
Because appointment times are reserved specifically for you, I ask that cancellation or rescheduling requests be made at least 48 business hours (2 business days) in advance to avoid a late cancellation or no-show fee.
The late cancellation/no-show fee is equal to the full appointment fee.
If less than 48 business hours' notice is provided and I am able to reschedule you within the same calendar week, the fee will be waived.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate outlining the expected cost of your care before beginning treatment. I review fees during the initial complimentary phone consultation and provide a written estimate before your first appointment.
